Narrative
By 1891 Maude was in the Infant Orphan Asylum, West Ham, Leyton, essex. There is no explanation for this, other than her father had died by this time. By 1901 both Maude and her brother William are living at 164 Markfield Rd, Tottenham, with their Mother and her new Husband.
The West Ham Infant Orphan Asylum, containing up to 400 persons, was erected in Wanstead Parish (West Ham) in 1841. It was officially opened in 1843 by King Leopold of Belgium. In 1938 it became the Royal Wanstead School. It was designed by Gilbert Scottand William Moffat. It was not a bad place, just underfunded. They took care of any child in need of shelter.
