Narrative
Burials. Sherborne St Mary (Abbey) 1813 ư 1837
Found in the Sherborne and Yeovil Mercury, 1804 13Feb:
Hyatt Robert - Brazier, Sherborne. (A small advertisment). No more details.
It seems that Robert went to London around the same time as his brothers John, Charles and James. He married there and then returned to Sherbourne to run the CrossKeys inn with his Mother until her death.
By 1823 Robert was the innkeeper at his mothers tenancy, The Cross Keys inn, Sherborne. At the same time, Robt. Hyatt was working for or owned Tinman Co. (Braziers) on the Parade, Sherborne.
Found in the 1823 Robson's Directory of Sherborne.
In the 1835 Robson's Directory of Sherborne, the Innkeeper at the Cross Keys Inn was Richard BAKER; 34yrs of age; Innkeeper; not from Sherborne, but with his 3 Children, Mary, Susan and Richard, born in Sherborne. No wife listed for Richard Baker. Interestingly, his brother John Baker, aged 29, was innkeeper at the Sun Inn just around the corner in Cheap Street.
On 10 August 1819, Elizabeth Hyatt's son, Robert was sworn as her sole executor, showing that she had died by this date. Her effects were valued at Đ100.
On 17 March 1832, Robert Hyatt, "Brazier and innholder", signed his will, leaving everything in trust to "my Dear Niece Eliza Hyatt daughter of my late Brother William Hyatt deceased". This clearly establishes that Robert Hyatt was Eliza Hyatt's uncle and that he himself in all probability had no children.
On 11 September 1833, Robert's will was sworn by his executors and trustees (William Webb Penny and William Shepherd), showing that he had died by this date. Robert's effects were valued at Đ1500.
In 2008, Đ1500 from 1833 is worth Đ122,000.00 using the retail price index OR Đ1,240,000.00 using average earnings.....
